Dear Parent or Guardian

Winter months are the busiest time for the NHS. We see higher numbers of injuries from falls, a surge in illnesses such as sickness and diarrhoea, coughs, colds and flu and the worsening of long- term health conditions, such as respiratory problems.

There is no need to go to A&E for most illnesses and injuries.

In the meantime, the advice for people who need urgent healthcare when it is not a life-threatening emergency is to contact their GP practice first, or to ring 111.  Do tell your GP receptionist if you need to see or speak to a GP urgently. Most practices will arrange to see patients on the day or phone back if it is urgent. GPs will always try to see young children the same day.

Please help us to save lives by sharing this information as widely as possible with parents, staff and your community.
